Santa Maria a Gradillo was built between 975 and 1018 AD on land acquired by the local noble families of Rogadeo, Muscettola and Pironti, the church was consecrated in 1276. The church plan is basilica with three naves separated by rows of grey marble columns, the central part of the transept is covered by a high cupola dome on a drum-shaped base, which partially collapsed in 1715 and was reconstructed in the external decoration of blind intertwined arches made with blocks of grey tufa stone
