The Duomo (Church of Santa Maria Assunta) is situated
right in the heart of Ravello, in the main square the
most picturesque spot of the town. It was constructed
in 1086 by the first Bishop of Ravello, Orso Papice.
This diocese was directly responsible to the Pope in
Rome but was abolished in 1818 after a succession of 55
bishops. The Cathedral has gone through many
transformations both externally and internally and today
after much restoration we are able to admire its
original Romano architecture. The bronze doors, donated
by a Ravellese aristocrat in 1179 were made by Barisano
da Trani. The Duomo is the main and most beautiful
with white marble and cream colors. The Duomo can
accommodate up to 190 wedding guests and may be booked
for the Nuptial Mass any day of the week, including
Saturdays & Sundays. For small weddings we may suggest
you other small and intimate church. Specific
paperwork requirements are needed in order to have a
Catholic wedding with legal validity. Wagner Tours will
assist you through all the steps.
